Delmastro case: former undersecretary to appear before the committee

Rome, 30 March (LaPresse) – The Anti-Mafia Commission will investigate the Delmastro case in greater depth through hearings involving the former undersecretary himself. Sources within the Commission’s presidency have indicated that “the Commission’s Bureau has unanimously approved the launch of a series of hearings on the Delmastro affair and as part of the investigation into the Senese clan, which the Commission has already addressed during the strand concerning ‘Affari di Famiglia and Hydra’.” The Commission – the sources add – will proceed to request hearings from the Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office, the law enforcement agencies, the Police and the Guardia di Finanza, the DAP, the UCIS, the security detail and the former undersecretary himself, in accordance with the principles of rigour, transparency and timeliness that characterise its institutional work. The decision was taken with the full support of the majority, in particular by Fdi, which also highlighted the need to clarify how information relating to an ongoing, particularly sensitive investigation was leaked to the press. As part of its activities, the Committee will also carry out a mission to Milan on 16 April, during which aspects related to the ‘Hydra’ investigation will also be examined in depth. The Committee ‘reiterates its commitment to ensuring a full investigation of the facts, whilst respecting the prerogatives of the judicial authorities and safeguarding the integrity of the institutions’.
