Milan, 30 March (LaPresse) – Elena Chiorino has resigned as a regional councillor for the Piedmont Region, having previously stepped down from her role as vice-president in connection with the Delmastro case. “I have informed President Alberto Cirio of my decision to tender my irrevocable resignation. It is a decision I am taking out of a sense of responsibility and for the good of the Piedmont Region, the centre-right majority and my party, Fratelli d’Italia. I am a person of integrity and I cannot accept that the developments in an investigation concerning third parties, and not myself, are being exploited,” Chiorino stated in a note. “I cannot accept that, without any scruples, attempts are being made to target me personally, calling into question the administrative work carried out over recent years and irresponsibly involving even unrelated individuals. The latest alleged scoop concerns the fact that tomorrow a person I know might be appointed to a body linked to the Special Olympics, with no remuneration and in the absence of other candidates within the timeframe set by law. I am stepping down with my head held high, confident in my integrity and the work I have done in the service of the institutions. I will continue to defend my ideas on behalf of the Fratelli d’Italia Group, as well as my social standing and personal integrity, against any form of opportunism, in all forums,” he concludes.
