Fuel, Codacons: “Excise tax discount eaten up by price increases, Easter travel alert”

Rome, Apr. 2 (LaPresse) – “Average diesel prices are rapidly approaching €2.10 per liter across Italy, with diesel seeing new increases today and selling on average at €2.085 per liter. The highest prices are in Bolzano at €2.120 per liter, Friuli Venezia Giulia at €2.103, Trento at €2.096, Calabria at €2.095, and Valle d’Aosta at €2.094 per liter. Gasoline stands at €1.760 per liter, while on highways the average diesel price rises to €2.144 per liter and gasoline to €1.827,” according to Codacons, which daily reprocesses MIMIT data.

“An unstoppable escalation that has literally ‘devoured’ the excise tax cut introduced by the government,” Codacons stated. “Compared to prices before the 24.4-cent tax reduction, diesel prices are now only 1.8 cents lower, with an effective saving on a full tank of less than €1 (exactly €0.9).”

“The real risk is that in the coming days, pump prices, regardless of oil quotations, could rise further due to increased car travel during the holidays, worsening the Easter financial burden for Italians and turning car trips into a real drain,” Codacons concluded.
