Rome, Apr 13 (LaPresse) – ‘China's position on economic and trade relations between China and the United States is consistent. There are no winners in a trade war and there is no way out for protectionism. There is an old Chinese saying, ‘He who tied the bell must also be the one who unties it’. We urge the United States to face the rational voices of the international community and domestic parties, take a big step forward in correcting its mistakes, completely undo the wrong practice of ‘reciprocal tariffs’, and get back on the straight and narrow path of mutual respect and resolving differences through equal dialogue'. Thus the spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, according to the ministry's website. With respect to the US decision to exempt certain products – such as computers, smartphones, semiconductor manufacturing equipment and integrated circuits – from tariffs, China believes it is ‘a small step for the US to correct its erroneous practice. The introduction of so-called ‘reciprocal duties’ through an executive order not only violates the basic laws of economy and market, but also ignores complementary cooperation and the supply-demand relationship between countries.’ ‘Since their introduction,’ the spokesman then recalls, ’tariffs have not only failed to solve any of the problems of the United States, but have actually seriously undermined the international economic and trade order, seriously interfered with the normal production and operation of businesses, as well as with people's lives and consumption, and harmed others without benefiting them in any way.
