Iran, Meloni: ‘In the Strait of Hormuz without the UN? Italy must be there, but Parliament must have its say’

Rome, 21 Apr. (LaPresse) – A mission by Italian ships in the Strait of Hormuz even without the UN? “We were among the first to propose that there should be UN backing for any such mission. You are also aware that this has not been possible due to a veto currently held by Russia and China in the Security Council. We will see in the coming weeks whether that veto can be overcome. In any case, I believe that if it is not overcome – subject to the conditions we have already clarified – namely that there must be a cessation of hostilities, there must be very broad international support, and the mission’s stance must be exclusively defensive – I believe Italy should be there, but it must be Parliament that decides on this.” This was stated by the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, at a press briefing on the sidelines of her visit to the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan.
