Brussels, Apr 21 (LaPresse) – “The daily U-turns on whether to open or close the Strait of Hormuz are reckless. Transit through the strait must remain toll-free. Europe will do its part to restore the free flow of energy and trade as soon as conditions allow.” This was stated by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas at a press conference after the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg. “Our naval mission Aspides is the fastest way to protect navigation in the region and I have asked ministers to provide additional resources,” she added. “The EU already has in place wide-ranging sanctions against Iran, but today we have also reached a political agreement to extend our sanctions regime so as to also target those responsible for violations of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,” Kallas concluded.
