Naples, 22 April (LaPresse) – ‘The precautionary plan drawn up by the Chief of Defence Staff envisages a group comprising two minesweepers, an escort vessel and a logistics vessel. In total, there would be four ships: two operational vessels, one logistics vessel and one escort vessel.’ This was stated by the Chief of Staff of the Navy, Giuseppe Berutti Bergotto, speaking on the programme Cinque Minuti regarding a possible mission in the Strait of Hormuz. When asked whether four ships would be sufficient, Berutti Bergotto explained that “obviously we are not going alone; we are going as part of an international coalition and other nations will also be sending minesweepers. In Europe, France and the UK have them, as well as a joint group comprising the Netherlands and Belgium”.
