Milan, 24 Apr. (LaPresse) – A hard-fought but successful debut for Jannik Sinner at the Mutua Madrid Open, the Masters 1000 clay-court tournament at the Caja Mágica. The Italian, world number one and top seed, had to battle through three sets to overcome a comeback from France’s Benjamin Bonzi (No. 104), winning 6-7 (6), 6-1, 6-4 in 2 hours and 20 minutes of play. In the next round, Sinner will face Denmark’s Elmer Moller, who took advantage of Canadian Gabriel Diallo’s (No. 32) retirement at 7-5, 3-3.
