Rome, Apr 25 (LaPresse) – “On April 25 we remember with deep gratitude that generation of Italians, civilians and military personnel, who gave us back freedom with great courage and sacrifice, and who reminds us what we are today as a Nation and as a community,” said Defence Minister Guido Crosetto in his message on the occasion of the 81st Anniversary of Liberation. “What makes the Liberation Day extraordinary is precisely this: the fact that it was born from difficult, dangerous choices made in different contexts but united by the same sense of responsibility. It was a widespread and silent commitment, made of faces, stories, concrete gestures; a collective path of struggle against Nazi-Fascism that at the time oppressed our Homeland and many Homelands in Europe, which made possible Italy’s rebirth as a free and democratic country, from which the republican Constitution later emerged. Our country, today, is a founding part of the European Union and a leading actor on the international stage,” Crosetto added, stressing that “remembering all this also means understanding that freedom is never a given once and for all. The same applies to peace, which does not arise simply from wishing for it nor can it be considered permanent. Peace is built every day, with responsibility, balance, strength and determination. This is a truth we feel today with even greater clarity and conviction. Changes in the global context remind us that freedom and security are inseparable. Threats take new forms, add to traditional ones, and extend across multiple dimensions: military, economic, technological, energy, information, cyber, space and cognitive. At stake are also resources, production chains, knowledge, and the trust that holds communities together.”
