Rome, 27 April (LaPresse) – ‘I have never shown, nor will I ever show, any disrespect towards the staff of any theatre, unlike the treatment I have received from the staff at La Fenice over the last eight months, who have constantly and systematically defamed, slandered, insulted and bullied me on social media, in newspapers and on TV, in Italy and around the world, with the declared intention of damaging my professional reputation and, consequently, my career.’ So said conductor Beatrice Venezi after the Teatro La Fenice Foundation in Venice announced yesterday that it had cancelled all ‘future collaborations’ with her. The statement specifies that it is ‘sufficient to scan the Italian news, and not only since the end of 2025, to note the repeated communications that undermine the “respect” due to Maestro Venezi’. In Italy, according to Venezi, “being young is a handicap, and being a woman makes it worse. My success is that of a self-made girl from the provinces. And the Establishment doesn’t like that.”
