Rome, 1 May (LaPresse) – Jannik Sinner is the first finalist at the 2026 Mutua Madrid Open. The world No. 1 defeated Arthur Fils (No. 25 and No. 21 seed) 6-2, 6-4, thereby reaching his first career final on the clay courts of the Caja Mágica. At 24, the Italian is now the youngest player ever to reach at least one final in all Masters 1000 tournaments. Only Novak Djokovic (25), Rafael Nadal (27) and Roger Federer (30) have achieved this feat – albeit at a more advanced age. With this victory, the 350th of his career on the main tour, Sinner’s run of consecutive wins has risen to 22. It stands at 27 if counting only Masters 1000 events, given that his last defeat dates back to last year’s Shanghai tournament. Only Nadal and Djokovic had reached at least five consecutive finals in this category of tournaments, and only the Spaniard (2011) and Federer (2006) had reached the final in the first four ‘1000’ events of a season. Of those two, however, neither has ever managed to win all four in the same year, so Sinner can aim for a feat never before achieved in history. To do so on Sunday, he will have to beat the winner of the second semi-final, either Alexander Zverev (No. 3 and No. 2 seed) or Alexander Blockx (No. 69).
