Milan, 14 May (LaPresse) – Davide Ballerini has won the sixth stage of the 109th Giro d’Italia, a 141-km route from Paestum to Naples. After four finishes on the Lungomare Caracciolo, this year’s finish line in Piazza del Plebiscito saw the XDS Astana Team rider give Italy its first victory of this year’s Giro. Having emerged unscathed from a massive crash just a few hundred metres from the finish line, Ballerini beat Belgian Jasper Stuyven and Frenchman Paul Magnier, both of the Soudal Quick-Step team, in the sprint. Portugal’s Afonso Oliveira Eulalio (Bahrain Victorious) retains the pink jersey as race leader.
