Rome, May 16 (LaPresse) – One of four Canadian citizens in isolation in British Columbia, after leaving a cruise ship hit by a hantavirus outbreak, has presumably tested positive. Canadian media reported this, citing local health director Dr. Bonnie Henry. The man, it said, had been hospitalized two days ago after experiencing mild symptoms, including fever and headache. The test carried out on Friday gave a presumptively positive result. The result will have to be confirmed by a national microbiology laboratory in Winnipeg. In the meantime, the patient will be treated as if he or she had the disease. Clearly, this is not what we hoped for, but it is what we predicted,” Henry said. “I want to emphasize that hantavirus is a very different virus from other respiratory viruses we’ve dealt with, such as Covid, influenza, or measles, and we don’t consider it a virus with pandemic potential,” he added.
