Milan, 19 May (LaPresse) – ‘We will certainly have to extend’ the excise duty cut due to expire on Friday. ‘However, for the thousands of lorry drivers, this cut is essentially irrelevant. We have a meeting on Friday with all the road haulage associations to revive a tax credit and find several hundred million euros to cover the budgets that would otherwise be in deficit’. This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport and leader of the League, Matteo Salvini, on RTL 102.5. “The lorry drivers have called a national strike for the whole of next week and they are right. They are not like those from the USB yesterday who called a strike on the railways and in schools – with very low participation, incidentally – in solidarity with the Palestinian flotilla. The lorry drivers are right; we must be able to help them, because stopping lorries for a week means empty shops and Italy in chaos,” added Salvini.
