Naples: part of the Vela Rossa in Scampia collapses; the building was unoccupied

Naples, 20 May (LaPresse) – During the night, part of the Vela Rossa in Scampia collapsed; the building was due to be demolished as part of the regeneration plan for the neighbourhood north of Naples. The building had been unoccupied for some time and had already been partially demolished. Firefighters and paramedics from the 118 emergency service attended the scene. No injuries have been reported, though one person was taken to hospital for a check-up. Residents of a nearby block of flats, which was grazed by debris, were evacuated as a precaution. The causes of the collapse are yet to be determined.
