Rome, 21 May (LaPresse) – Iran has stepped up the rebuilding of its military capabilities and resumed drone production in the weeks following the entry into force of the ceasefire with the United States and Israel on 8 April. This is according to CNN, citing US intelligence sources. According to the American broadcaster, the speed and scale with which Tehran is rebuilding its capabilities in the drone and missile sectors have surprised the US intelligence community, which had anticipated a longer timeframe for the restoration of its arsenal. A US official, quoted by CNN, stated that Iran could return to pre-conflict military levels ‘in just six months’, claiming that Tehran has ‘exceeded all the timelines predicted by the intelligence community for rebuilding’. According to some sources, the process has also been accelerated thanks to assistance from Russia and China. In particular, Beijing is said to have supplied missile components to the Islamic Republic since the start of the war on 28 February. The Chinese Foreign Ministry, however, has rejected the allegations, stating that the CNN report “is not based on facts”. A Pentagon spokesperson reiterated that the US armed forces “have everything necessary to act at the time and place chosen by the President”.
