USA, Trump-backed candidate wins GOP Senate primary in Texas

Plano (Texas, USA), May 27 (LaPresse) – Ken Paxton, Texas Attorney General and candidate backed by Donald Trump, has won the Republican primary for the United States Senate, defeating incumbent four-term senator John Cornyn. Paxton received the endorsement of the US president last week, who called him a “MAGA warrior.” His victory in Tuesday’s runoff makes Cornyn the first Republican senator from Texas to lose the party’s nomination for re-election. Trump supported Paxton as part of his effort to unseat GOP officials he considers insufficiently loyal in backing him.
