Kyiv (Ukraine), May 31 (LaPresse/AP) — Debris from Ukrainian drones set fire to a fuel depot in the southwestern Russian region of Rostov, on the border with Russian-occupied eastern Ukraine. Local Governor Yuriy Slyusar reported this on Telegram on Sunday, adding that residents of nearby homes had been evacuated. The Ukrainian General Staff confirmed that its forces were responsible for the attack on the facility in the town of Matveev Kurgan. Local authorities had previously stated that a drone attack on the depot had caused a massive fire. According to the General Staff, Ukraine also struck the Lazarevo pumping station in Russia’s Kirov region, northeast of Moscow, more than 1,200 kilometers from Ukrainian-controlled territory. The station helps transport Russian oil from Siberia to Belarus. Local Governor Alexander Sokolov stated that drones struck a facility in the Kirov region but did not provide details.
