Rome, 2 June (LaPresse) – “Italy, together with Europe, is committed to restoring the value of rules within the international community, to emerge from a phase of constant conflict and to build a new, effective security for all peoples.” So said the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in a message sent to the Chief of the Defence Staff, Luciano Portolano, on the occasion of Republic Day. ‘The difficulties and risks currently affecting our security and well-being must be tackled with determination,’ added Mattarella, emphasising that ‘there can be no true peace as long as pockets of threat remain, and there can be no true well-being if even a single part of humanity is forced to live in precarious conditions’.
