Cagliari, June 2 (LaPresse) – An attempted robbery took place at a bar and tobacco shop in Monastir, in the suburbs of Cagliari, where a masked man armed with a gun entered the premises: the owner’s reaction reportedly forced the alleged perpetrator to abandon his attempt and flee in a car without managing to take any money or goods. Subsequent investigations and analysis of surveillance footage allowed the Carabinieri to quickly trace the vehicle used in the getaway, a Ford Focus registered to a 36-year-old resident of Nuraminis, already known to law enforcement. The search then focused on the area near the man’s home, where the vehicle was located. Inside the car, officers reportedly found a balaclava likely used in the attempted robbery and a few grams of hashish. The man, who was inside his home, did not respond to attempts to make contact by the Carabinieri or a parent, necessitating the intervention of mediators and two operational support teams. The area was cordoned off and secured, partly due to concerns that the suspect might be armed. The officers managed to enter the home and subdue the man, who was found unarmed and asleep, likely under the influence of sedatives. During the subsequent search, the Carabinieri found five marijuana plants on the terrace, a discovery that also led to charges of possession with intent to distribute narcotics. After completing the necessary formalities, the 36-year-old was arrested and transferred to the Uta prison, where he remains at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
