Rome, 16 June (LaPresse) – Iran and New Zealand drew 2–2 in their opening match at the 2026 World Cup, played in front of 70,000 spectators at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. The New Zealanders took the lead twice, but the Iranian side managed to fight back on both occasions, securing a valuable point. New Zealand opened the scoring in the 7th minute through Elijah Just, who also scored the second goal to make it 2-1 in the 55th minute. Ramin Rezaeian scored for Iran in the 32nd minute and Mohammad Mohebi in the 64th, sealing the final 2-2 draw.
