Rome, 16 June (LaPresse) – Electrolux announced at the meeting at the Ministry of Economic Development that it was suspending its redundancy and closure plan for 50 days. This was reported by the trade unions at the end of the meeting at the ministry. “The situation has not been definitively resolved, but the plan has been suspended and the company will not unilaterally take any action. I believe this is a first step forward that we can welcome with cautious optimism and that is the result of the joint protests held over recent weeks,” said Uilm secretary Davide Sperti. “It is an important first step; it is not the solution, but it opens the door to discussion,” added Sperti, explaining that “in the coming days there will be meetings with workers and discussions at the Ministry to find alternative solutions to that shameful plan for the phased closure and winding down of Electrolux plants”.
