Milan, 16 June (LaPresse) – The Carabinieri have arrested the 29-year-old man who was driving the car that caused the accident on the SS 340 Regina near Brenno, in the Como area, in which Francesco Piras, aged 35, lost his life. The man was behind the wheel with a blood alcohol level exceeding 1.5, which is why the police proceeded to arrest him on charges of manslaughter, causing injury in a road traffic accident and drink-driving. According to the police reconstruction, the 29-year-old, of Moroccan origin, was driving a Mercedes A-Class when, for reasons still under investigation, he collided with the other car, a Fiat Panda, which was then thrown against the crash barrier, overturned and plunged into the water. In addition to Piras, whose body was found on the shores of the lake in Laglio, there was also a 35-year-old woman in the car, who was seriously injured. The 29-year-old allegedly attempted to flee and failed to provide assistance, to the extent that he was found by the police 100 metres from the scene of the crash in a highly agitated state.
