Rome, 17 June (LaPresse) – The Court of Cassation has upheld all the sentences handed down on appeal in the trial for the murder of Saman Abbas, the young Pakistani woman killed in Novellara, in the Reggio Emilia area, in the spring of 2021. The defence’s appeals have been rejected. The life sentences for the girl’s parents, Shabbar Abbas and Nazia Shaheen, and for her cousins Ikram Ijaz and Nomanhulaq Nomanhulaq, are now final. The 22-year prison sentence for her uncle, Danish Hasnain, has also been upheld. Present at the hearing were the former mayor of Novellara, Elena Carletti – now a regional councillor for the PD – and the current mayor, Simone Zarantonello. Following the murder, the family members involved left Italy, seeking refuge in Pakistan, France and Spain.
