Rome, 17 June (LaPresse) – Daniela Ferrari, Andrea Sempio’s mother, has been admitted to hospital. The news was announced by Gianluigi Nuzzi at the start of ‘Dentro la Notizia’. Liborio Cataliotti, one of the 42-year-old’s lawyers, spoke live on air: “I’m just leaving Rome; I was at the Court of Cassation discussing a case, and I was with Mr Taccia when the call came through announcing her admission. It was an emergency admission to A&E following a drug overdose; we don’t know whether the drugs were taken voluntarily or not,” explained the lawyer. “We rushed off whilst I was arguing a case – that of poor Saman. Mr Taccia phoned Andrea Sempio directly,” he explains. “As the defence team, we were keen to send a message urging our client to stay close to his mother, to reassure her, and to tell her that we will redouble our efforts to ensure she can put all the social media attacks, the letters she receives and the emails behind her. She needs to switch it all off; she is not under investigation, she is not involved – her only ‘fault’ is that her son is the subject of these proceedings – and perhaps this wake-up call is telling us that now is the time for everyone to tone things down.”
