Brussels, 18 June. (LaPresse) – According to diplomatic sources, today’s European Council meeting in Brussels will be preceded by two meetings, attended by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The first is the meeting of the ‘Friends of Cohesion’, a format of 17 countries in defence of cohesion policy. Hosted by Italy and organized on a joint initiative with Romania, this time it will see the participation of 16 countries as Cyprus, having the rotating presidency of the EU Council, is required to maintain an equidistant position. The other event is the usual meeting on migration, this time organized by Denmark, which is attended by a variable number of countries. Initially, around 10 EU states took part in this format, which later increased to 14-15, also recording Germany’s interest in the topic. The focus here is on the implementation of the Pact on Migration and Asylum and the Return Regulation, which was approved yesterday by the European Parliament.
