Rome, 19 June (LaPresse) – Extortion aggravated by the use of mafia methods. This is the charge on which, according to information obtained by LaPresse, Domenico Spada, aged 31, has been arrested; he is believed to be responsible for a series of acts of intimidation against shopkeepers in the south-east of the capital. The courage of three shopkeepers proved decisive: despite their fear, they chose to report everything to investigators at the State Police’s VI Casilino District and to the Carabinieri at the Tor Vergata station, enabling the investigators to piece together a case against him. On the basis of this, the judge for preliminary investigations, Gabriele Fiorentino, at the public prosecutor’s request, issued an order for his remand in custody. The order was executed by officers from the State Police’s VI Casilino District. The investigations were coordinated by the Rome District Anti-Mafia Directorate and conducted by investigators from the Casilino District in close collaboration with the Mobile Squad of the Rome Police Headquarters and with the assistance of the Carabinieri from the Tor Vergata station. Three businesses came under the suspect’s scrutiny: the Carpe Diem Café in Via Passo Lombardo, the Elyfer Giardinaggio & Ferramenta hardware shop in Via di Vermicino, and the Punto Snai betting shop in Via Torraccio di Torrenova. According to the account set out in the investigation files, Spada is alleged to have used threats, intimidation and constant references to his surname and family background to obtain money and other financial benefits.
