Milan, 19 June (LaPresse) – Students at the Liceo Classico will be set a text by Marcus Fabius Quintilianus. They will be required to translate the passage, put it into context and answer a number of questions testing their comprehension and analysis of the text. Quintilian has been set three times for the Latin written exam, most recently in 2013. Students at the Liceo Scientifico were set a problem involving functions, in which they are asked to calculate the water level of Lake Bracciano. The exam papers quote Albert Einstein, with a statement taken from his 1921 lecture ‘Geometrie und Erfahrung’: ‘Insofar as the theorems of mathematics refer to reality, they are not certain; and insofar as they are certain, they do not refer to reality.’ Students must also answer the four questions that have been set.
