Milan, 19 June (LaPresse) – To sentence Renato Curcio and Mario Moretti to life imprisonment and Lauro Azzolini to 21 years’ imprisonment. These are the demands made by the Turin Public Prosecutor’s Office at the conclusion of the trial for aggravated murder with terrorist intent against the former members of the Red Brigades for the killing of Carabinieri corporal Giovanni D’Alfonso, which took place on 5 June 1975 at Cascina Spiotta, in the province of Alessandria. The public prosecutor, Emilio Gatti, concluded his closing speech before the Assize Court of Alessandria, seeking the maximum sentence for the two former historic leaders of the armed organisation, whilst requesting that general mitigating circumstances equivalent to the aggravating factors be recognised for Azzolini, who is being defended by lawyer Davide Steccanella, who, during the trial, confessed and admitted to being present during the bloody firefight between Red Brigade members and Carabinieri officers who had arrived in Arzello di Melazzo to carry out a lightning raid to free the industrialist Vittorio Vallarino Gancia, who had been kidnapped for the purpose of ‘self-financing’ and described as a ‘financier of the fascist gangs in the Asti area’.
