Rome, Jun. 20 (LaPresse) – Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani spoke today with Italy’s Ambassador to Santo Domingo Sergio Maffettone to be updated on the condition of Italian tourists staying at the Bayahibe resort that caught fire on Friday morning. This was reported by the Foreign Ministry. Tajani also spoke with the husband of Mrs Francesca Valentino, the Italian citizen who died as a result of the fire, expressing his condolences on behalf of himself and the Italian government. Ambassador Maffettone informed the minister about consular operations carried out to assist compatriots returning to Italy, and also updated him on the work of Alpitour staff, who from the very beginning mobilised effectively to help tourists. After the flight that already departed last night, another 83 Italians will return today on scheduled departures. Just over 90 Italian citizens are expected to remain, who will return in the coming days, in agreement with Alpitour, following the original travel schedule.
