Brussels, 22 June (LaPresse) – Overnight, Russian military drones attacked two merchant ships in the Black Sea, killing a man of Egyptian origin. According to reports from the Ukrainian Navy, a massive fire broke out following a Russian drone attack on the Turkish merchant ship Victress (flying the Panamanian flag). There were nine crew members on board, nationals of Egypt, Turkey and India. According to Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction and Minister for Community and Territorial Development, Oleksiy Kuleba, two merchant ships heading for Ukrainian ports were struck, and a fire broke out on the Panamanian-flagged vessel. One crew member, a 58-year-old Egyptian cook, died. “Eight sailors, including Turkish and Indian nationals, were forced to evacuate onto a liferaft. The vessel sustained extensive damage and lost its ability to sail,” he said.
