Rome, 23 June (LaPresse) – “In the forthcoming elections, the centre-left must present itself to the Italian people with a number of fundamental and non-negotiable points. As far as the Alliance of Greens and the Left is concerned, there will never be any ambiguity regarding the defence of international law, the role of the United Nations, the central importance of the International Criminal Court, and the unhesitating condemnation of Putin’s criminal aggression against Ukraine.” So said Angelo Bonelli, AVS MP and co-spokesperson for Europa Verde, speaking on the Omnibus programme on La7. “We can discuss and debate the means of reaching a negotiated solution to conflicts, but there can be no uncertainty regarding the principles. Today, international law is under attack and we are witnessing an attempt to replace the rule of law with the law of force. This drift is fuelled by leaders who have helped to dismantle the international rules and bodies established to guarantee peace and the protection of peoples,” he adds. “This is why we will always be committed to rebuilding the role of international institutions and strengthening the tools for cooperation and mediation. On this point, there will be no wavering. Nationalist and militarist policies, based on the supremacy of the interests of economic elites, are antithetical to our vision of society, which places rights, social justice, ecological transition and the protection of peoples at its heart,” he concludes.
