Milan, 25 June (LaPresse) – “Italy and Romania were explicitly named by the NATO Secretary-General as countries that took part in the aggression against Iran. Along with every other European country that has supported the US-Israeli aggression against Iran, they must explain to their own citizens and to the world why they have chosen to be complicit in this blatant act of aggression and in the commission of mass atrocities against the Iranian people in Minab, Lamerd, Tehran, Isfahan, Sanandaj, Hamadan, Tabriz, Shiraz, Bandar Abbas, etc.” This was written on X by the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, in response to Mark Rutte’s interview with Fox News, in which the NATO Secretary-General stated that “one country after another, one ally after another, have made their bases available for Operation Epic Fury”, citing both Italy and Romania. In the Fox News interview, Rutte said that 500 US aircraft had used Italian bases “to support” Operation ‘Epic Fury’ and added that Bucharest had had to reduce commercial flights to allow US forces to station their refuelling aircraft at the city’s airport. “This is a clear and overwhelming admission of NATO’s active complicity in an illegal war of aggression against a sovereign UN member state, a flagrant violation of the peremptory norms of international law and the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter,” wrote Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Baghaei, who attached the video of Rutte’s interview to his post. “The Organisation and the individual member states that participated in this decision-making process must be held accountable for all the consequences,” he added.
