Milan, 26 June (LaPresse) – A 42-year-old neighbour has been arrested on suspicion of murder and arson in connection with the death of Giovanni Amenta, a 73-year-old pensioner who died during the night of 25–26 June at his home in Lomazzo, in the Como area. The suspect is believed to have set fire to the property whilst the elderly man was inside. According to initial findings by officers from the Investigative Unit of the Como Provincial Command, in collaboration with the Carabinieri from the Cantù Company and the Lomazzo Station, there had been arguments and disagreements between the two men, which investigators describe as ‘repeated’. According to the reconstruction of events, on the night of 25–26 June, the 42-year-old is alleged to have used flammable liquid to set fire to the 73-year-old’s flat; the victim died of suffocation as a result of the fire.
