Rome, 1 July (LaPresse) – Alfredo Cospito will remain detained under the 41 bis regime. The Rome Supervisory Court has rejected the appeal lodged by the defence against the extension of the strict prison regime ordered by the Ministry of Justice, confirming the renewal of the restrictive measure for a further two years. The anarchist, who is being held in Sassari prison, has been subject to the 41 bis regime since 2022. The appeal had been lodged by lawyer Flavio Rossi Albertini, who had challenged the grounds underlying the ministerial decree. The 75-page ruling cites the favourable opinions expressed by the National Anti-Mafia Directorate, the Turin District Anti-Mafia Directorate and the Central Directorate of Preventive Police at the Ministry of the Interior. According to the investigators’ assessments, the anarchist movement that continues to look to Cospito as a figurehead still poses a real threat to public order and national security. For this reason, a return to a less restrictive detention regime could allow him to resume contacts and the exchange of information with circles deemed to be subversive.
