Washington (USA), 1 July (LaPresse) – The Trump Administration announced on Wednesday that it will not renew the United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA) in its current form. The deadline for renewing the agreement – which was signed by President Trump during his first term following the revision of the previous NAFTA agreement – expired today. The US Trade Representative, Jamieson Greer, stated that, although the Administration will not renew the USMCA, the agreement will remain “in force pending the resolution of these issues or until its termination”. Speaking to journalists, Greer also announced that the United States will meet with Mexico in the week of 20 July for a third round of negotiations. “The United States will continue to engage with Mexico and Canada to address the shortcomings of the agreement and our trade deficits with these countries,” he said.
