Milan, July 2 (LaPresse) – “Tomorrow the excise duty cut introduced by the government will expire, which, according to the latest decree of June 5, is worth 5 cents per liter for both diesel and petrol”. This was stated by Codacons, which underlines the effects of a possible failure to extend the tax measure. “If the discount on excise duties is not extended, a full tank of diesel or petrol, also taking into account VAT on excise duties, will cost motorists 3.05 euros more – Codacons explains – In particular, the average price of diesel will immediately rise to 1.94 euros per liter on the ordinary network and to 2.02 euros per liter on highways. Petrol will rise on average to 1.86 euros per liter, 1.95 euros on highways”. “A price increase at the pump that would be immediate and that, paradoxically, would occur despite the sharp collapse in oil prices: Brent, the benchmark for the European market, has in fact fallen from 95 dollars per barrel at the beginning of June to 70.8 dollars today, a -25.5% drop which motorists have not benefited from due to only minimal reductions in pump prices”, the association continues, noting that “in the last month the average price of diesel and petrol at service stations has decreased by only about 6%, despite the pressure from the Minister of Enterprises Adolfo Urso on oil companies to reduce prices”.
