Turin, 2 July (LaPresse) – Jasmine Paolini has secured her place in the third round at Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam of the season currently being played on the grass courts of the All England Lawn Tennis Club. The 30-year-old from Bagni di Lucca, ranked 17th and seeded 13th – making her sixth appearance in the main draw, with the 2024 final as her best result – defeated Switzerland’s Victorija Golubic, ranked 62nd in the WTA, 7-6 (0) 6-4 in the second round, in a match lasting one hour and forty minutes, against Switzerland’s Victorija Golubic, ranked 62nd in the WTA, who is competing in the British Grand Slam for the eleventh time, having reached the quarter-finals in 2021 (where she was defeated by Pliskova). On Saturday, Paolini will face Greece’s Maria Sakkari, ranked 43rd in the WTA, who is making her tenth appearance at ‘The Championships’, where she has reached the third round for the fifth time (she has never gone further), thanks to her victory in the decisive tie-break against Russia’s Rakhimova (who knocked Jasmine out in the second round of last year’s British Grand Slam). The 30-year-old from Athens leads 3–2 in head-to-head matches against the Tuscan player, having won their most recent encounter in two sets in the second round on the hard courts of Doha last February.
