Florence, 3 July (LaPresse) – Police intervened in Seano (Prato) to clear the workers’ permanent sit-in outside the gates of the Acca factory, which had been organised by the Sudd Cobas trade union since 21 June to protest against the announced closure of the factory, with the consequent risk of around a hundred jobs being lost. Acca specialises in the transport of ready-to-wear clothing across Europe. The operation began shortly after 7 am. The protesters and trade unionists were loaded onto police coaches and taken to the police station for questioning. On the evening of Tuesday 23 June, around 250 businesspeople from the East had attempted to break through the picket line, leading to clashes with the police. “Once again, in the face of a social crisis and a dispute affecting a hundred jobs, the response risks being focused solely on maintaining public order rather than protecting rights,” writes Antonella Bundu, a former candidate for the presidency of the Tuscany Region for Toscana Rossa, on social media.
