India, 26 tourists killed in attack in Kashmir

Srinagar (India), 23 April (LaPresse/AP) – The death toll from yesterday's attack in a tourist area in Indian-controlled Kashmir has risen to at least 26, according to local police sources, who added that more than 30 people were injured, some seriously. The attack took place in the Baisaran grasslands, about 5 km from the tourist resort of Pahalgam, in the disputed region of Kashmir. Police have blamed militants fighting against Indian rule for the attack. According to two police officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, most of the victims were Indian. At least 24 bodies were recovered after the attack, while two other people died while being transported to hospital.
