Milan, 4 July (LaPresse) – The Turin Public Prosecutor’s Office has requested that a police officer from the 5th Mobile Unit be placed under house arrest in connection with the injury to Marco Basoccu, the Juventus fan struck in the head by a tear gas canister prior to the Torino–Juventus derby on 24 May. According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, headed by Giovanni Bombardieri, the tear gas canister was fired in a “manner not in accordance with established procedures” and without regard for the “potentially very serious consequences”. The man has already been subjected to a preliminary hearing before the Turin investigating magistrate, who must now decide on the request for a precautionary measure after hearing his account of events. The investigation, entrusted to the mobile police unit, drew on technical expert reports, numerous testimonies from fellow police officers and the analysis of footage from public and private CCTV cameras, as well as drones used for public order purposes.
