Rome, 5 July (LaPresse) – On 5 July 1966, a small group of pioneers led by Fulco Pratesi officially marked the founding of WWF Italy. Sixty years have passed since then, filled with unceasing work to protect nature: a journey that has helped to profoundly transform the relationship between Italian society and our country’s natural heritage. The organisation has received numerous accolades at this important milestone in its history. First among these was President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, who received a delegation led by the association’s president, Luciano Di Tizio, at the Quirinale Palace. It was President Mattarella who was presented with the first copy of the book ‘WWF: 60 Years for Nature’, which traces, through text and images, the organisation’s presence and commitment in our country. Pope Leo XIV sent his ‘heartfelt’ apostolic blessing, encouraging the organisation “to continue its work of solidarity and raising awareness regarding the care of creation, remembering that it is only through a return to the heart that a genuine ecological conversion can take place. We must move from collecting data to taking care; from environmentalist discourse to an ecological conversion that transforms personal and communal lifestyles”.
