Bolzano, 6 July (LaPresse) – “We are examining and looking into the actual possibility of having Alex Schwazer’s third test sample analysed privately.” This was confirmed by Gerhard Brandstätter, the lawyer for the South Tyrolean race walker who, a few weeks ago, tested positive in a doping control for the third time in his career. The sample the lawyer is referring to is the one kept by Sandro Donati and obtained on the sidelines of the test Schwazer underwent during the German Open Race Walking Championships. Doubts remain as to the usefulness of analysing residual urine, which in any case would not be recognised by the anti-doping agency: “We need to see if it is technically possible and if we can find someone to carry it out. Everything should become clear within the next two weeks,” Brandstätter adds. In fact, it is unlikely that the test could be carried out in a standard anti-doping laboratory. It is more likely that the race walker and his team will turn to a university facility.
