Milan, 7 July (LaPresse) – “A new wave of fuel price rises, with diesel currently selling for an average of 1.935 euros per litre at ordinary petrol stations, exceeding 2 euros per litre on motorways (2.012 euros), whilst petrol costs 1.852 euros per litre (1.940 euros on motorways).” This is according to Codacons, which states that “in just four days, the average price of diesel in Italy has risen by 5.3 euro cents, whilst petrol has gone up by 4.9 euro cents, resulting in an additional cost of +2.65 euros for a full tank of diesel and +2.45 euros for a full tank of petrol”. The association emphasises that this upward trend “is being driven by the end of the excise duty cut, which expired on 3 July, and is leading to across-the-board price rises at petrol stations”. “These price rises are, on the one hand, occurring despite the slump in oil prices – which currently stand at around 73 dollars, down by more than 23 per cent compared with early June – and, on the other hand, coinciding with Italians’ summer holidays, resulting in a hefty blow for those travelling by car,” concludes Codacons.
