Syria, Élysée Palace: ‘Macron is fine, visit to Damascus continues’

Damascus (Syria), 7 July (LaPresse/AP) – Following two explosions in central Damascus whilst Emmanuel Macron is on a visit to Syria, the Élysée Palace has reported that the French president is fine and that his visit to Damascus is continuing. Macron had entered the presidential palace to meet Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa when the explosions occurred near the Four Seasons Hotel, where, according to Syrian media, Macron was staying. State media, citing an anonymous security official, reported that the two explosions in the heart of the capital were caused by explosive devices. At least 18 people were injured, including several police officers.
