The Carabinieri, who are continuing their investigation and treating the case as a murder, questioned the young man at length. He had raised the alarm and initially explained that he had been out for dinner and had returned in the evening to find the door locked from the inside. The fire brigade also attended the scene. An initial examination of the woman’s body revealed signs of violence. The 21-year-old was questioned for 10 hours by investigators, after which he was taken into custody.
