Scaloni’s side had a chance to equalise in the 21st minute, but Messi missed his second penalty of the tournament. Egypt doubled their lead in the 67th minute through Ziko, and it looked all over for the ‘Pharaohs’. However, Argentina fought back in the closing stages to turn the result around. In the 79th minute, Romero pulled one back, followed by a superb goal from Messi in the 83rd minute and a header from Enzo Fernández in the 93rd minute, sending Scaloni’s side through to the quarter-finals, where they will face the winner of Switzerland v Colombia.
