Milan, 8 July (LaPresse) – Following Inter v Verona on 3 May 2025, Bologna v Inter on 20 April 2025 and the Coppa Italia match between Inter and Milan on 23 April 2025, the Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office is bringing charges against Gianluca Rocchi in relation to a fourth match as part of the investigation into alleged interference in referee appointments to select officials favoured by Inter. The match in question is “Torino v Inter on 26 April 2026”, in which Rocchi is alleged to have appointed “Maurizio Mariani as referee only after obtaining the prior consent of Inter, as he was a referee not favoured by the club”. This is reported by *Corriere della Sera*, which cites a new summons to appear – different from the one issued on 24 April – for the referee-appointing official who, in recent days, “agreed to be questioned in strict secrecy, accompanied by his lawyer Antonio D’Avirro and his new co-defence counsel Antonio Bana”, by Public Prosecutor Maurizio Ascione and Deputy Public Prosecutor Paolo Ielo – in contrast to his actions two months ago, when he exercised his right to remain silent. The newspaper based in Via Solferino reports that from the new charges “the section (which had initially also been contested as a criminal offence) concerning the so-called ‘calls’ to the VAR room in Lissone to have the decisions and suggestions of the ‘VAR officials’ to the on-pitch referees changed live has completely disappeared”. The allegation that he had “fraudulently accepted interference with the aim of altering the proper conduct of the competition” has also been amended. Now, in the sports fraud case, the Milanese prosecutors refer to “collusion with representatives of Inter and in prior agreement with them, the latter acting by virtue of their preferential relations with Gabriele Gravina”, the president of the FGCI who resigned after Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup and was replaced by Giovanni Malagò.
