Milan, 10 July (LaPresse) – In May, following three months of quarter-on-quarter increases, the seasonally adjusted industrial production index fell by 0.3% compared with April. Compared with the previous year, the calendar-adjusted index rose by 1.1 per cent. This was reported by Istat, which emphasised that the month-on-month decline was widespread across all major industrial sectors except energy. By contrast, on a year-on-year basis, “capital goods rose sharply (+5 per cent), whilst energy (+1.9 per cent) and intermediate goods (+0.8 per cent) rose to a lesser extent”, and consumer goods fell (-3.2 per cent). Among the sectors, the manufacture of transport equipment recorded an increase of 11.6 per cent.
