I identify with these values, with the hard work and the sense of belonging.” These were the first words from Ignazio Abate as Torino’s new manager. For the former Milan and Italy full-back, it marks a return to the Granata following his playing days. “I wore this shirt and felt those values; you can breathe in the history. Coming back after so many years,” he added, “a lot has changed from an organisational point of view; I’ve found a great club and a lovely training ground. I feel the responsibility, which I try to live up to every day.” As for the sort of team he has in mind, Abate said he wants a “distinctive Torino; we want to forge a strong identity. I want proactive football, to dominate the game and play aggressively.”
